The Southeastern Residency Conference is a two day symposium designed to give pharmacists in post-graduate residency training programs an opportunity to gain experience presenting original work and engage in fellowship with other residents and preceptors from around the southeastern region. The conference is held annually at the Classic Center in downtown Athens, Georgia.
Residents and preceptors attending the conference may pick up their conference materials and name badges in the designated registration area at the The Classic Center in the Firehall. The registration area will be open on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning prior to the Opening Session.
All preceptors who will be serving as evaluators and/or moderators for the educational sessions are strongly encouraged to attend this sit-down breakfast and orientation session prior to the start of the meeting.
The SERC always kicks off with the opening session where general announcements, information about our social event, and a conference over-view will be presented. All residents and preceptors are strongly encouraged to attend.
The conference itself consists of 7 presentation sessions spread over two days. There will be up to 12 concurrent presentation rooms with 7-8 presentations scheduled in each room during each session. Many of the rooms will have similar presentations (such as pediatrics, adult medicine, etc..) so preceptors and residents with a specific interest may be able to stay in one room throughout the session. Each resident has 15 minutes allocated for their presentation (rule of thumb: 12 minutes for their presentation and 3 minutes for questions). There are 5 minutes between presentations to allow easy transition from room to room.
All residents and preceptors are strongly encouraged to fill out an evaluation form on each presentation they attend. There will be a designated evaluator in each room who will meet briefly with the resident after their presentation to give them constructive feedback.
Refreshment breaks are scheduled between sessions to allow an opportunity to network, plan which presentations to attend next, or just relax and unwind (a popular activity for residents who have already presented). The area designated for breaks is just outside several of the presentation rooms so please remember to keep conversations to a minimum when residents are presenting.
Lunch on the first day will be outside if the weather is nice. For preceptors, we have scheduled a working lunch & Preceptor's Meeting. The purpose of the Preceptor's Meeting is to give the conference steering committee an opportunity to get feedback from preceptors on conference planning and key issues. This conference really belongs to all the participating programs so this is a very important part of the program.
Lunch on the second day will be a more traditional sit-down lunch for both residents and preceptors.
On Thursday evening there will be a cookout at The Classic Center in the Atrium. Dress is casual (jeans etc..) and there will be musical entertainment, good food, and great conversation in a very relaxed atmosphere so come prepared to have a fun time!
